Books

It was only after careful consideration Frank decided to title his debut novel, Booger. “I thought, if this thing actually caught on, they’d have to say, ‘Franklin E. Wales’ Booger is a best seller,” he says with a laugh. “We had a lot of fun with our first signing on that one. Jacki got this big witch's pot that we filled with clear gelatin and a liberal amount of blue sponge chunks, as well as three or four green ones. She covered the opening, and our gimmick was ‘Pick a green booger and win a book!' Warm gelatin has an amazing similarity to snot, when you can't see what you put your hand into. Seemed like everyone at the convention came by to pick a booger!"

With his follow up, Gamemaster, Frank decided to go with a more psychological twist. An odd move for someone who debuted with a story about the Boogeyman. He explains it this way, "I enjoy reading both styles; the pure terror of the supernatural, as well as the 'This could really happen' of a Hannibal Lector type story. A good chill down your spine works no matter which style you use."

Booger BOOGER

Not believing in his child’s night scares cost David Thurston his child’s life. Believing in them cost him nearly a decade of his own. It took the doctors at the Sunnyville Mental Institution seven years to convince David the only Boogeyman was in his mind. It took only a few weeks back in the outside world to convince him they might be wrong.

As the people he cares most about are dealt horrible deaths, David is forced to choose between the unbelievable words of a homeless man, and the uncomforting facts of the doctors. All the while the words of his mother echo through his tormented mind…The Boogeyman will get him if he doesn’t watch out.

Reviews:

“Despite horror fiction and film being more popular than ever these days, it seems that the ‘breakthrough’ author in the genre is getting rarer and rarer, despite the successful Leisure line that spotlights icons like Richard Laymon and Jack Ketchum...That may change with Franklin E. Wales’ new novel, BOOGER. Here is a new and original voice from the ultimate fan-cum-artist. BOOGER is a challenging novel told in the simple, down-home style of Joe R. Landsdale. Think Stephen King surprises, Jack Ketchum terror, and Robert Bloch suspense and you have a small part of what Frank Wales delivers here---this BOOGER is a very special treat, worth a pickin’!” - Buried.com.

“Franklin E. Wales’ BOOGER isn't so much a terrifying story as it is a livable nightmare. The story oozes with nasty goodness and I can't wait for the next offering! Be careful after opening this one... you better hope Mr. Wales isn't under your bed!”
- David Hayes, Author of MUDDLED MIND and star of BACK WOODS

"Bloody good time, don't think it's just suspense----plenty of action, gore, and twists to keep the reader totally spellbound! And don't think you can guess where things are going, the twists and turns in the storyline just kept coming. Every time I thought I had something figured out, the narrative would switch gears! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!" - Steve McNaughton, Journalist

"(Frank's) published numerous pieces of both fiction and nonfiction, but “Booger” is his most ambitious work to date." - Janet Hounsell, CONWAY DAILY SUN

Gamemaster GAMEMASTER

A millionaire sociopath sits on death row for his calculated slaughter of several children. Bernard Hopkins is unconcerned with his approaching execution. He believes that the seeds he has sowed in this life will cleanse the world to his liking before he receives his life’s reincarnation. His only concern is that the world doesn’t not know that it was his superior intellect that designed the future that awaits them.

A prison guard and a tabloid reporter franticly try and fit the pieces of a twisted puzzle together before time runs out. Curt Caulfield and Lisa Perkins are not sure if they are the masters of their own destinies, or simply puppets being manipulated by the GAMEMASTER.

Reviews:

"Gamemaster by Franklin E. Wales can only be described as riveting. It takes you by the throat, and despite your protests, just won't let go. It is in the thriller category as a cross between Silence of the Lambs and Stephen King's wildest dreams. The frightening truth is, it could happen, might even be happening, right now to my kids and yours. Gamemaster blurs the lines between our worse nightmares and today's realities. " - Marilyn Boutwell, English Specialist, LIU Brooklyn Campus.

"Forget Koonz, King, Ketchum, Lee, Laymon, and the rest, Franklin E. Wales stands on top. The character and story development are superior to anything I have read in a long time. . .
The revelations that unfold about Bernie knocked me out of my chair. I honestly say I did not see that coming. You really feel and learn about the characters and feel there not characters but people you have known all your life. Your sad to see the story come to an end." - Phil Herman, Independent Director.

"GAMEMASTER finds horror author Franklin E. Wales evolving into a master storyteller. It's a fast, hypnotic, 21st Century morality tale combined with a supernatural detective story. Once you pick this book up, it's hard to put down. If you mixed Thomas Harris and Ed Lee, the result would be Frankline E. Wales' GAMEMASTER. This is a grisly, wonderful book and Wales' writing style keeps you turning the pages well past the midnight hour. This compelling novel is destined to become a horror classic!" -Tim Ritter, author of UNREEL and director of RECONCILED.
