FAQ:
Q: Why do you write horror?
A: My mother tells the story that when I was very young I knew what time and night the Twilight Zone came on television. I would pitch a fit if not allowed to stay up and watch it, and Mom would let me. Inevitability I would wake screaming in the middle of the night. Evidently it was easier to calm my night terrors than deal with my stubbornness over wanting to watch the show. I like to say I was weaned on the Twilight Zone.
Q: What made you decide to call yourself a storyteller?
A: Years back when writing for a music magazine, we got a request to personally cover a local act, and the reason given was that my work read more like a story than interview. That made me feel really good to hear that.
Q: Where did you publish your first stories?
A: I sold quite a few around the small press when I began. None of them seem to be around any more except for Cemetery Dance, I was in issue #2 of that.
Q: I have a great idea for a story, do you want it?
A: Thanks, but no. I have enough stuff bouncing around my skull right now.
Q: What is scary to you?
A: Early on in my life I had to put something back at the grocery store check-out line because I didn’t have enough money for all my items. I never want to be in that position again. Real life is scary enough.
Q: Do you still take work for hire?
A: Of course, this is America, and I am a fan of the free market. I occasionally get an email from an editor that wants an original story for some publication or other, and it’s great to be offered money for something you love to do.
